How does
Chiropractic benefit your health? |
|
Chiropractic care is natural, simply removing interference to your
body's own controlling and healing ability. It avoids the side-effects associated with
trying to control the body with drugs, etc.
Chiropractic
concentrates upon the causes of health problems, not merely the symptoms, enabling
maximum
health to be reached. It is an essential component in the maintenance of your health.

|
|
Your
mind controls the many millions of cells that make up your body. It knows what each of
your cells is doing at any one time, and coordinates the function of all of your cells to
work in harmony. Your mind knows exactly what your body needs, when it needs it, and how
to make it. Without having to consciously think about these actions, it controls your
ability to adapt all the functions of your body to resist disease. This inborn or innate
intelligence is what keeps you alive and healthy.
Information from your mind passes through your brain, along your spinal
cord and out across the nerves to the cells of your body. Sensations about how your body
is responding and functioning pass back in the same way. By expressing this information,
your nervous system controls, coordinates and gives life to all the cells and structures
of your body.
If your nervous system becomes irritated by malfunctions or misalignments
of joints (subluxations), particularly those of the spine, pelvis or skull, this flow of
information is impeded. The result is a decrease in the function of your body's cells and
organs, loss of ability to adapt and diminished resistance to disease. Usually
subluxations are not accompanied by pain or other obvious symptoms.
Using adjustments Chiropractic Doctors restore the function of your spine.
By doing this they free your nervous system to allow your body to control and heal itself;
your cells can reach their maximum potential and resistance to disease is
optimised. |

Correction and relief from
symptoms increasingly difficult and prolonged
|
|
Normal
Disc spaces appear healthy. Normal
alignment is present. No degeneration is evident.
|
Phase 1
Loss of normal curves and alignments. Supporting tissues
weakened. Abnormal movement irritates nerves and other tissues. Obvious symptoms or pain
may not be present.
|
|
Phase 2
To compensate for weak supporting tissues,
the body has begun to stiffen itself with calcium. The disc has worn considerably.
Continued nerve irritation is present.
|
Phase 3
left uncorrected, after years of degeneration, this spinal
segment has fused completely. nerve openings have greatly narrowed. Adjacent segments will
wear more quickly under the extra stress.
|
|
Subluxations are often not
accompanied by pain.
Because your spine has a great ability to compensate Obviously to avoid spinal decay
the earlier a spinal for individual malfunctioning segments, years of problem is detected
and corrected, the less damage abnormal movement may pass before pain or other will have
occurred. For this reason we advise specific symptoms appear. Unfortunately this delays
everyone, especially children, to have regular Chiropractic 'check-ups'. |
Child care
starts with
chiropractic
care.
|
The importance of having children
checked for subluxations cannot be stressed enough. Birth, slips and falls all commonly
cause subluxations. Spinal degeneration occurring in many adults usually begins in
childhood. Like tooth decay, it is preventable. Some of the conditions that uncorrected
subluxations may cause in children, apart from headaches and back pain, include colic, bed
wetting, asthma, behavioural disorders, learning difficulties, and many more. Chiropractic
Doctors adapt their techniques to suit children of all ages.
|
Correcting the damage
The ligaments and muscles of your spine become accustomed to working in an abnormal
way. After each adjustment your spine has the tendency to return to this abnormal motion
or position. To overcome this adjustments need to be relatively frequent when beginning
care. If left too long between adjustments your spine will return to its abnormal
function. |
The longer a spinal problem
has been present, the longer it will take to correct.
When the function of your spine improves (after the initial stages of retraining) your
body will have a chance to heal itself and the resulting symptoms of nerve interference
will go away. |
Response
to care |
How well you respond to
care is largely dependent upon how long your spine has been functioning incorrectly and
your desire to help your body heal. There are a few things you should do, and should not
do, to help you: |
|
Activities
to avoid:
- bending and lifting with straight legs
- twisting your spine on top of your pelvis
- use your feet slouching in chairs and crossing legs when sitting
- wearing 'high heels'
- sleeping on your stomach
- contact sports and sudden movements |
Help your body
heal:
-eat simple, fresh foods - plenty of fruit and, vegetables, minimal
preservatives and manufactured foods, minimal animal products and alcohol
- rest - give your body time to repair
- stick to your schedule -the quality of your adjustments is an essential ingredient, and
their timing is vital |
|
|
Choosing the
type of care which best suits you |
 |
Initial intensive
care:
In this phase of care we work together to help you feel better and to sta spine. In
the beginning adjustments are relatively frequent to maximise their affection of your
spine improves and your body heals, inflammation and nerve irritation will and the
resulting symptoms will disappear. (Much like if you dropped a brick on your foot when you
take it off your body needs time to heal before it feels any better.)
|
|
Reconstructive or
rehabilitative care:
After Initial Intensive Care this is the phase to retrain your abnormal movement patterns
and return your spine as near as possible to normal function. Muscles and ligaments learn
to work correctly.
Choosing to stop care too soon results in incomplete correction of spinal
malfunction. Spinal degeneration continues regardless of symptoms. You should cease care
only with the knowledge that when symptoms return they are often more severe and take
longer to correct.
|
|
Maintenance or
wellness care:
Prevention is better than cure. Realising that their health is their responsibility,
the people who choose this type of care have their spines checked for subluxations on a
regular basis. By detecting problems when they are small, they prevent them from becoming
large.
By maintaining optimal spinal health
these people gain benefits of increased energy, wellbeing and resistance to disease that
is associated with a nervous system free from interference. Costly and uncomfortable
recurrences of pain or other symptoms are minimised and the spinal degenerative process is
slowed or avoided. |
